Theme: “Welcoming the stranger”
The Missionary Catechists of Divine Providence are organizing a rally and prayer service in support of all Hispanic immigrants and the silent majority of U.S. citizens who wish to welcome the stranger.
In light of President Trump’s proposed “ban” on immigrants, and determination to build “walls” based upon prejudice and fear, we are rallying to give voice to the voiceless and make visible our opposition to such a xenophobic stance (fear of the stranger). We wish to build bridges, not walls!
Our roots as an immigrant nation whose very symbol, the statue of liberty, bespeaks our desire to welcome the stranger: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” We wish to rally all women and men who believe in “human rights” to help give voice, witness, and prayers in support of this core value of our nation, welcoming the stranger in our midst.
